I drive through that area several times a year, and can tell you in Mecklenberg they are very good about setting up speed traps, form one who drives there trust me it is all revenue. 58, 47 & 1 are all well known for having speed traps. I have been pulled over on cruise control several times through there. I have caught them in lies several times, but I have to say they have always been nice about it all, never disrespectful.

The unfortunate thing is that when I am down that way I am usually heading for Virginia International Raceway, and as such I am in my Mustang which is a weekend racer / fun toy car. It is for that reason I ride the cruise control as since the car is visually a cop magnet. I was pulled over once there for what the officer called an aggressive lane change, no one was on the road but me, I even used a signal, he said it was a "racing move" my shifting lanes through a bend. The unfortunate thing is i live 4 hours north closer to DC so it actually costs me more to fight a ticket than to just pay it, which is exactly what they hope for. That said I have only ever been pulled over in that area 2 or 3 times total over the past 6 years.

I'm also curious why he does not have a car mounted radar since most do.

As for the concealed carry permit, I have several friends with them and the first thing they do is tell the cop. The officer was right in that he should have mentioned it, even though the officer knows the minute he runs the plates if you tell him it sets a lot of tension aside.

Should make that amazing data available so others don't get caught up in fraudulent tickets.

update for Carlos' readers.
My case was DROPPED by the commonwealth attorney.
She heard i was at the courthouse making copies of recent tickets (& getting some amazing data for my case) and someone from there called her, so she came down to meet me and tell me she was not proceeding with anything on my case.
Surreal, to say the least.
I REALLY appreciate Carlos giving this story 'ink', and for your views and comments.

I really hope Colley's website will offer guidance for others that have been "Barney Fifed."
When I was 18 (WAY back in 1992) I got a speeding ticket on I-25, in the middle of nowhere Wyoming by a cop that told me he judged my speed while engaged in the writing of ANOTHER speeding ticket to another motorist. That's right Barney said that just by watching me drive by him, he knew I was speeding. Being a young teenager, I just assumed that a cop would always do right be me.

I have no doubt the main function of modern police is revenue generation, and this cop was performing that function by issuing this ticket without properly determining the drivers speed.

All of that being said, we could still use many more cops with the personal skills of this man.

It seems that "law enforcement officer," really does mean "revenue generator," thats to bad. I wonder if this will happen more and more as municipalities across the planet get nailed financially.
