By Carlos Miller
On October 2nd, Bill Cooke of Random Pixels left the following comments on my blog.
I stand behind eberything I write and admit mistakes.
******
I’m not talking about updating.
I’m talking about deleting material because you’re afraid of offending someone.
In some circles that’s known having “no balls.”
Bill is the ballsy blogger alright. Not afraid of offending anybody. In fact, he can come across as downright vicious and mean-spirited at times.
In fact, he is the same “Hank” who posted the comment under the ugly portion of the testimonials section on the left side of this blog. A real pleasant guy.
On October 9th, this is what he said about local publicist Tara Solomon.
“Let’s cut right to the chase: In a town that has more than its share of shallow, self-absorbed, imperious, snotty and insufferable a**holes; Tara Solomon has to rank at the top of the list.”
It was such an eye-opening quote that Rick from the South Florida Daily Blog posted it on the Quotable section of his blog.
But Bill has since deleted that post from his blog.
Why would he do such a thing?
Perhaps it was because he ended up photographing Solomon for the Miami New Times a few days later as part of his assignment on a local writer promoting a new book?
Well, that shouldn’t be reason enough for him to delete the post. After all, he stands behind everything he writes. Or should I say, “eberything.”
Not even Google Cache is able to retrieve the entire post (maybe some of you internet gurus can track it down).
And it doesn’t even come up on Rick’s blog except for the Quotable section, which you can see above because it will probably be deleted from his blog by the time he reads this.
It’s almost like Rick never mentioned it in his daily sift.
But surely Rick would have sifted it if he thought the quote was worthy enough for his Quotable section.
All we know is that the post was titled “Tara Solomon: Queen of Hypocrisy” and it leads to an empty page.
I guess that would make Bill the King of Hypocrisy.

Seriously, Carlos? Isn’t there anything more significant going on in your life at 3:30 in the morning than taking on a guy who deleted your comment on his blog? Wow.
Be that as it may, let me explain something to you. Not everything that goes in the “Quotable” section is placed in the Sift. So, no, I didn’t mention RP’s post in the Sift. The 10-15 searches that you did on SFDB [Statcounter is great] between 3:43 and 3:53 were amazingly accurate.
Oh, and FYI. Your IP has been used by someone who has visited SFDB in the past and anonymously posted inappropriate comments. I tend to flag IP’s like that in Statcounter. Know what I mean, Carlos?
Sure you do.

Here we go again…

Aw damn, and that was good reading too.
It’s why we have a pretty broad “no-delete” policy on our forum. People are more than welcome to hang themselves. Only way we’ll do anything is if it involves a court order.
Other than that, say whatever the hell you want. Everyone should use that policy.

I love reading your blog Carlos, and I’ve even donated to you cause.
This type of post is beneath you and if there is someone reading your blog for the first time, it would not give a good first impression. I don’t know why you keep letting a guy wiht a readership of 12 get under your skin, but your constantly calling him out on your blog that deals with first amendment rights is a bit childish.

give this kind of post a pass in the future, please. your topical posts are much too interesting for me to come here and watch a fight that frankly, most people could care less about. ignore the holes.

I’m with Sean. This kind of childish rant lessens you. It undermines your credibility as an adult.

Agreed. You can’t go around attacking the journalistic integrity of various publications, then go selectively deleting your own blog.

You know why I “can’t” comment on your blog as of late but I couldn’t exercise my virtual laryngitis for this one.
I question why this issue warranted a post given your usual topics….NOT TO MENTION one of the places that pays you to write for them when you know they censor and delete the crap out of what people write in their forums… It’s the pot calling the kettle black but I realize it’s your blog and you can write about whatever you deem ‘fit’…much like pRick and Bill on their OWN sites.
I stopped reading pRick a long time ago because he’s paid by those same people I mention and he favors promoting their/their friends topics + blogs in a positive light versus using a critical eye because of the freebies he gets from them… and his friends. Ever notice how those seated with him at those free dinners never have anything negative written about them? even when some of their posts are outright poo? You’ve been at those same gatherings too so don’t pretend like you don’t do the same.
It’s not unlike my refusal to read your posts/topics written for the unnamed site. Being compensated for your opinion is one thing but being paid to write one-sided pieces which only paint butterflies and roses questions not only your objectivity but your credibility as well. Yet, I guess I can understand the lot of you: objectivity isn’t paying the bills; Lip service is.
Oh, and before you don your grammar police hat, check your own posts guy!

Should have passed on this one Carlos. You are belittling yourself.

Yeah, never mind the local clown. Everyplace *cough AWB here cough* has them.
You’re national, man.

Magic City Mama….sour grapes much? Carlos, you forgot to empty the trash on this thread.

I reiterate — the beer summit invitation remains open.

No way Capt pRick Haterade, I just call them like I see them. As I mentioned to Carlos elsewhere earlier: you get my vote for hypocrisy king of the Miami blogosphere. After all, you’re here making comments about Carlos hiding under anonymity and outing him with your trusty stat counter when you were the one who erased your complete SotP blog and gathered your blogosphere high school clique to attack when someone insinuated they knew where you worked and threatened your anonymity. If that’s not hypocrisy, I don’t know what is.
14 CL Jahn // Oct 15, 2009 at 8:00 PM
Wait, I’ve supposed to have been PAYING Rick for all the mentions over the years? Geez, the bill musta got lost in the mail.
15 Rick // Oct 15, 2009 at 8:07 PM
Oh. Ok. Gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up.

16 CL Jahn // Oct 16, 2009 at 12:41 AM
Geez, Magic City Mama, you must be the biggest idiot on the blogosphere if you think Rick is anonymous. He’s clearly not anonymous. You have a name for him, you can link his writings to him, and we all know who you’re talking about. None of that supports your claim that he’s anonymous.
He’s far less anonymous than you are.
Of course, you’ve also implied that he’s getting compensated for saying positive things about people on his blog, and since he’s plugged my 3 blogs on many occasions, and I’ve never paid him a dime, I know that that assertion is bogus.
So I figure you’re not stupid so much as a stinkin’ liar. And anyone who has to lie to bolster their argument can’t have much of an argument to begin with.
But by all means spew your hate-filled vitriol; it’s as amusing as it is pointless. Well, no, it’s more pointless. But it’s only coming from you, so no one really gives a hoot.
17 Magic City Mama // Oct 16, 2009 at 7:44 AM
Wow Chris, you’re reading comprehension skills suck considering my comment clearly stated other groups- not just people who pay him but in any event, both Carlos (who my first comment was aimed at) and pRick (who my second comment was responding to) know who/what I was talking about….and I’m far from anonymous to either one of them.
Keep on writing about birds, birdbrain.
18 Magic City Mama // Oct 16, 2009 at 7:45 AM
Oh, and if noone cared, neither you or pRick would be commenting on it…multiple times.
19 C L Jahn // Oct 16, 2009 at 10:12 AM
MCM : I’m far from anonymous to either one of them
So, if TWO people know who you really are, you’re not anonymous to the rest of the world? Is that your claim? By your own argument, Rick isn’t anonymous as you previously stated.
Since that’s YOUR argument, it only reveals you as a liar.
Nice work, MCM; couldn’t have done it without you.
MCM: Keep on writing about birds, birdbrain
Sure thing; have some bird seed.

Carlos,
Damn. Blogging is a full contact sport, huh? Seems like friendship and blogging are like oil and water. Great post – it catches the hypocrisy of that RP blowhard perfectly.
Rick, your response didn’t address the point of Carlos’ post – RP’s blatant hypocrisy. Also, who the hell defines what an “inappropriate comment” is? What… he used a curse word? Told you to fuck off? Big deal. I completely agree with POD’s take on postings.
I agree with Sean’s comment that calling out RP is beneath the website’s high calling to defend the first amendment. Entirely understandable that you’d get pissed, mind you, but beneath you.
Every available stat counter I can find estimates that Random Pixels gets between 10-20 hits/day. My guess is that you get about 4,500. You get that because you are focusing on big, important issues brother. Stay strong! Stay focused!
MCM, hope you decided to fight for the child support owed your kid. Some things are worth fighting for.

Anyone who has worked with bill knows he is a bitter resentful man who is alway battling somebody.
You shouldn’t stoop down to his level. You’re above that Carlos
