Winter finally arrived in Miami Wednesday night with temperatures dropping to the low 40s. And while it may seem mild to those of you who live up north, it was a drop of more than 20 degrees in a two-day span so it’s like a sudden jolt of cold water in a hot shower for us.
And nobody feels it worse than the homeless. So last night I grabbed a few sweaters I had stored in a box that I had not worn since living out west where you have four months of winter instead of four days.
Then I hit the streets looking for homeless people. Most I saw were already bundled up in blankets under bridges and expressways but I found a couple of guys shivering in t-shirts.
I gave them the sweaters and snapped their photos.
I’m also experimenting with a new photo plugin which enables you to see the photos and cutlines by clicking on the navigational arrows. Let me know what you think.

Doesn’t the tear drop mean “murder”? – as in he murdered someone? Blue would mean a cop.

I thought all prison tattoos were blue. I always wondered if anybody could just get a tattoo or do they have to go in front of some jailhouse committee who has to approve it first.

I should get the camera tattoo under my eye. Anybody who has been jailed for photography should get one.

so was this really an act of kindness for the homeless or just another carlos miller stunt to inflate your head even more? why photograph these people? what was the point of this post? why not just go out, hand out some sweaters, and go home to bed and call it a day? sorry, but your intentions do not seem genuine.
helping the homeless is one thing, but doing it in the manner you chose to do and then bragging about it on a blog as though people should be praising you for an act that thousands of other people already do on a regular basis (and quietly I might add), is distasteful.

I’m a photographer. I like to document social injustices. I put it on my blog to remind people that there are many people freezing their asses off in the street while we’re sitting warm at our computers.
