I had that issue a few times with a couple of different hosts. I wish I had good advice to offer, but I never really found a permanent solution other than moving to TypePad and then, later, Blogspot, precisely so that I simply wouldn't have to *worry* about such thing ; it'd be on someone else's (massive) server and therefore someone else's problem. But I fully understand that those options come with their own issues, regarding content ownership, the potential whims of Google, and so forth, not to mention how much less customizable those options are than WordPress. I never would have made the switch if I hadn't intended to slowly wind down my blog as a central aspect of my life (i.e., when I graduated law school and got a job!).
