Great article, and very true.
My dad belongs to group #1, the police are never wrong. I don't belong to any of them, I try to be as objective as possible. Both group #1 and #2 have extremely annoying people.

I feel your pain on the site crashing thing. I had that issue a few times with a couple of different hosts. I wish I had good advice to offer, but I never really found a permanent solution other than moving to TypePad and then, later, Blogspot, precisely so that I simply wouldn't have to *worry* about such thing ; it'd be on someone else's (massive) server and therefore someone else's problem. But I fully understand that those options come with their own issues, regarding content ownership, the potential whims of Google, and so forth, not to mention how much less customizable those options are than WordPress. I never would have made the switch if I hadn't intended to slowly wind down my blog as a central aspect of my life (i.e., when I graduated law school and got a job!).

Brendan,

I just realized I had your name misspelled in my blog post. I will correct that.

Conover's story will be published this week.

I was going to post it today but then I got so many hits on the Amtrak, that it made my site crash.

And the same thing happened with Conover's story a few months ago, so I figured I should wait because it might result in a double whammy.

P.S. Oops, I just realized I'm repeating myself about the Google thing -- I forgot I'd already mentioned that. :) Also, another reason it was difficult for me to personally follow up is that I recently shut down my blog, so I have nowhere to post anything I might find!

HLW, I agree completely. I've had a Google News Alert for Conover's name ever since his initial hearing was delayed, in hopes of learning the outcome that way. Unfortunately, I've seen no news articles about the case -- and the timing was difficult for me to do personal follow-up, as I recently left Tennessee. But I'm glad to hear that Carlos has followed up with Conover, and I look forward to his report!

Brendan,

Conover's charges got dropped. I haven't posted an update yet because he ended up in a more complex situation.

However, I am planning on posting the entire story once the new year kicks off.

I've been in contact with Conover non-stop since I wrote about him. We talk frequently.

In fact, I may meet Conover in person tomorrow for the first time because he will be passing through Miami.

Brendan -

This is far too often the problem with stories like these. They are a big blog splash and then there is little or no followup from either the blog world or mainstream media and people that follow these items never see the outcome.

Love to know more myself

Thanks for the shout-out and link!

Did you ever hear what happened in Conover's case? I set up a Google Alert for it months ago, but haven't gotten anything relevant.
