Given the guy has been working for the same newspaper for 24 years, I would give him the benefit of the doubt.

I would also bet the cop who arrested him has been on the force less than three years. 

But you&#039;re right, it&#039;s still too early to judge. This story was emailed to me at 2 a.m. last night just as I was about to hit the sack, so it&#039;s still very fresh.</description>

		<description>While I agree that the general rule should be as you state, if the police ask you to step back, you probably should, if the request is reasonable.  In this case, there&#039;s no way for us to tell one way or the other as to how close the photographer was, or if he was given reasonable directions.  He isn&#039;t quoted in the story at all, just his boss.  I&#039;ll withhold judgment on this one.</description>
