Have you checked www.bhphoto.com or www.buydig.com?

I order most of my gear from these sites. Not only are they usually cheaper than what you find in the stores, you don't pay sales tax when ordering online (at least in Florida).

OT:

Carlos,

I'm considering purchasing a Canon Rebel xTi camera. The best deal I've found so far is Circuit City, which is as of right now having a sale on the camera plus its starter lense for $599.

I have not found a reputable site that would offer me a better deal to go up against that offer + MD state tax. Do you have any professional 'ins' in that area? I'm looking to acquire one under the 1 Year USA Warranty and not a 90 day refurbish.

Check this out, you can buy tiny linux machines with USB ports for cheap, they sell surveillance cameras that are wireless and tiny, and use 2.4ghz antennae. Pop on a high gain directional antenna with an amplifier to the USB reciever, and strap the camera to your hat. the cameras are the size of two 5 packs of gum, and rechargable, and around $40. We've used them to make UAV style RC planes and helicopters in southern california, and they have a good range out of the box, but you should be able to do something like get a hotel room near where you are going to be point and shooting with your SLRs, and if anything happens while you're doing it, it's all back at a hotel room, being archived on google images or google video or amazon S3 or whatever.

How's that sound? total cost around $400-500, and the most expensive part isn't anywhere near your person at any time while you're out and about; just the $30-40 camera.

man, i almost wish i had been there. If an officer was cussing me out for asking where i should go because i am media and have rights as a media person; i would have said "or you'll do what, officer smith?"

i'm really surprised there isn't more video/photo coverage of this. Someone should have been out there with a parabolic mic and a long range lens on a DV camera. preferably connected live to a laptop with a wireless connection to stream to a server in Fiji.

I'll work on getting patents for a bluetooth/wifi enabled camera that's cheap enough that if it gets destroyed (you know, because there's nothing to erase! that would piss em off!) it's no biggie. i'll call it the watchdog camera. Patent Pending (seriously!).

maybe then, we'll SEE and HEAR more, rather than read about it. reading about it doesn't make an impact on people anymore. blah.
